Dr. Winetsky is a clinical infectious diseases specialist and postdoctoral research fellow. From 2015 to 2017, he served as the Site Medical Director for East Jersey State Prison, a maximum-security state penitentiary. His current research focuses on the control of HIV and viral hepatitis among people who inject drugs with significant exposure to the criminal justice system. In particular, he is interested in novel ways to engage this marginalized population in the prevention and medical management of HIV, hepatitis C and underlying substance use disorders, as they transition between criminal justice institutions and the community, with an emphasis on peer-based behavioral interventions.
